CDA Told to Build Mega Projects Before 2027 Summit
Authorities told the CDA to build mega projects as Islamabad’s development plans accelerate. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to speed up work on two major projects. A new convention centre is now a priority. Meanwhile, the CDA is also accelerating progress on the planned cricket stadium. Both projects would improve the city’s infrastructure and prepare it to host large international events.
CDA Told to Build Mega Projects, which include a New Convention Centre for the SCO Summit 2027
That meeting saw the interior minister inspect ongoing projects. CDA had already received 16 design proposals for the convention centre of Islamabad, he quoted officials as saying. The jury will soon select the winning design, and then the authorities can issue the tenders.
Builders will construct the JNC building next to the existing Jinnah Convention Centre. The previous government tried to privatise the old facility several times but failed. Now, the government will develop a whole new centre for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. This project will support preparations for the 2027 event. Meanwhile, planners will ensure the centre meets international standards. According to the report, Minister Naqvi has directed the CDA to begin work in advance. He wants the authority to maintain steady progress throughout the process. Officials will complete the project before the summit.
CDA Proposed Cricket Stadium Near Margalla Hills
On the same day, the authorities directed the CDA to build a cricket stadium on 25 acres. They identified the area near Sector D-12 and Shah Allah Ditta for the project. Officials will now begin preliminary planning for the site. Officials did not discuss the funding issue, but they expect the PCB to take over. Authorities also made the same offer in 2023. However, the CDA at that time proposed using land belonging to the PCB. Officials suggested that site for relocating Chinese schools.
More recently, officials said a new stadium design flown out from Dubai seated 30,000. The stadium’s picturesque position at the base of the Margalla Hills also has the potential to become a glamorous site for international matches.
Recall that CDA and PCB made attempts in the past to construct a stadium in Shakarparian , but the Supreme Court stopped them from doing this at any cost during 2018 itself. The court found that it was, in fact, part of the Margalla Hills National Park.

CDA Told to Build Mega Projects: Upgrades Made to Gandhara Club With Modern Attractions
The meeting participants also decided to submit a proposal to reactivate the Gandhara Club. The facility will feature new sports and entertainment offerings – like Top Golf and Go-Karting. The minister mentioned that the modern club will have better amenities than any other existing club in Islamabad, and it would benefit the residents as well as visitors of the city.
CDA’s Mega Projects Currently Under Review
The meeting also discussed other schemes, including the Margalla Road extension. Islamabad prepares for a seismic change. New convention centre, international-grade cricket stadium and modernised recreational spaces, not too far in the future, Delhi will transform into a more contemporary town.
