Islamabad to Launch Two Mega Projects to Rid the Traffic Woes
To combat consistent traffic jams in Islamabad, the Federal Minister for Interior Moshin Naqvi has approved Two Mega Projects. The Serena Chowk Interchange and F-10 Exchange Interchange bring ease to residents and commuters and improve traffic flow as well. The foundation of these projects will be held on November 5.
Rapid Project Completion
The Captial Development Authority (CDA) has initially envisioned comparatively longer completion dates for these projects. However, Mohsin Naqvi has advised CDA to complete these projects at a fast pace. The Serena Chowk Interchange will be completed in 3 months instead of 10 months. This construction includes two underpasses and connected roads that allow seamless traffic flow.
Furthermore, the F-10 Exchange Interchange was scheduled to be completed in 12 months. But on the special instructions of the Federal Interior Minister, it will be completed in just 4 months. It comprises one flyover, one underpass, and a network of connected roads. This will help in commuting easily across the capital city.
Traffic Management Plan in Two Mega Projects
An alternate traffic plan has already been approved to minimize the disturbances during the construction period. Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad, Sarfraz Virk, briefed the Interior Minister and CDA officers on the strategies for smooth passage of traffic around the areas of construction. The detours and re-routing through special arrangements would be devised to prevent major congestion in the affected areas.
Besides, a traffic management unit will be installed at the locations to ensure round-the-clock traffic management. The unit will work under the Islamabad Traffic Police and monitor traffic patterns and assist drivers to minimize inconvenience to commuters.
Pre-construction and Utility Relocation Preparation
The layout plans of Serena Chowk and F-10 Exchange Chowk Interchanges were discussed in a meeting held at CDA. At this point, Naqvi told CDA to hasten the service lines such as utilities and drainage, which might create some disturbance in construction work. The pre-construction preparations would avoid delay and be in line with the time constraint.
The Interior Minister emphasizes strategic planning and coordination between CDA, Islamabad Police, and utility providers to make the implementation of the projects easy. Among the attendees are the Federal Secretary of Interior, Chairman CDA, IG Islamabad Police, DC Islamabad, and other senior officials.
Future Plan
Apart from these new interchange projects, Naqvi has assigned the task to the authorities of working out an elaborate scheme for the movement of traffic at the Faizabad Interchange. It is the most busiest junction in the city. The government is not only committed to handling the rising influx of population but also efficiently managing traffic flow across the city.
